My First Cup (3 Sessions)

3-Day Pottery Course · Throwing, Trimming & Glazing · Wiesbaden-Igstadt

Prerequisites: None, ideal for beginners

This three-day course will guide you through the complete pottery process – from raw clay ball to finished, glazed ceramic piece.
In a small, relaxed group, I will accompany you step-by-step: from throwing to trimming and finally glazing your own pieces.
Ideal for anyone who wants to not only learn the basics but also go through the entire process themselves.

Day 1: Throwing – the form takes shape

On the first day, we dive into working with the pottery wheel. You will learn:

1. Preparing the clay (kneading, wedging, de-airing)
2. Centering on the wheel
3. Opening and pulling up a form
4. Throwing simple vessels – e.g. bowls or mugs

You can make up to several pieces and at the end decide for yourself which ones should be prepared for further processing.

Day 2: Trimming & Decorating

On the second day, we turn to trimming, where you will refine the bases of your pieces and give them their final shape.
You can also work with underglazes – a colored clay slip applied with a brush, sponge, or stencil. This creates initial individual designs before firing.

Between Day 2 and Day 3

After the second day, I will take care of:

• careful drying of your pieces
• the bisque firing

This usually takes approx. 2 weeks. We will flexibly arrange the exact date for Day 3 during the course.

Day 3: Glazing – your personal finishing touch

On the third day, you return and give your pieces their final touch: glazing.
You will learn:

1. How glazes work and what they achieve
   
2. Purposefully combining and designing glazes

Afterwards, I will take over the glaze firing.

Results & Pick-up

You can make several pieces and at the end decide for yourself which ones should be further processed. Two pieces will be fired and glazed.
Your finished ceramics will be ready for pick-up in approx. 1-2 weeks.
Shipping is available for an additional €12. For deliveries outside Germany, prices may vary.
All pieces are food-safe and dishwasher-safe.
